The Specialness Of Being A Jehovah's Witness
by minimus ini figured out why many people become jws or remain in the religion.
they actually believe that they are special!
they look down on everyone else because they alone are god's people.

I think what really makes them think they're special are the name tags
worn at assemblies... :)

I remember about 18 years ago when I was visiting my parents while I was living in the UK
my grandmother purchased one of those cars. I offered to drive it out of Brooklyn for her.
She still has the car!

Did Jesus sacrifice really mean anything?
by highdose insuspending for a minute the realisation that it never happened and instead looking at it as a beliver would.... jesus had to endure a painful death, yes.
but he knew that he would only be dead for three days and that afterwards he would get reserected and be able to mind f**k around with those who had put him to death.
and then he would live for ever in a brand new body!

I think the real question here is do you believe in the Bible and Jesus...obviously, we
have a mix of believers, non-believers and on the fencers. I am actually a non-believer.
I don't put it down to being raised as a JW, just logic and what I personally feel in my
heart...however, I respect the views of others who choose to believe. It takes a whole
lot more faith than I think I'll ever have. But I do think that it is imperative that we all
continue to respect each other's views. It is interesting to read everyones' posts...

I too have often pondered that...never seemed much like a sacrafice to me either.
One, he knew exactly what was going to happen, and two, if you believe the whole
thing anyway, he knew he would be going back to the cushy life he had before he
took a 33-year planet Earth fishing holiday.
Then of course there is the whole sin argument as well...since Jesus supposedly
died for our sins, then perhaps we ought to be a bit more sinful. Wouldn't want
the whole trip to be wasted.

Do you get to choose who you" fall in love with" ?
by caliber init's possible to choose people you get to know.
so, in learning about the people around you, it is possible that the things you learn about them could be things you appreciate or, at the very least understand.
many ex-jw's believe they married for other reasons (than love ) such as spiritual qualities or for security.

Thank you watchtower...
by punkofnice in..having been raised in your nutty cult i now have confusion over my world view!.
as i'm a brit we don't go in for therapy.
i tend to see it as some bloke trying to ask about freudian sex associations from my childhood.

Yep, pretty much f*$ed my life up as well. Made my childhood unbearable.
All those wasted hours at those horrid meetings. And the bathroom was always
minging. I hated it so much I used to make myself sick just not to go. I even
contemplated running out in front of a car once on Thursday nite.

ExJ...
I am pleased that you decided to go. I have a grandmother who has been a JW for over
60 years..she's 87 and still pioneers. I have and always will love her very much..she's is
the kindest person I know and never tries to shove religion down my throat. Like you, I
chose to leave as soon as I could because I could not reconcile the belief system. I will
be in the same quandary as you when she does pass, and I dread it. But I am so glad that
your time went well and everyone behaved. That's what your grandmother would have wanted,
I'm sure. My condolences....
